Welcome to TechRoom
I'm James Coleman, TechRoom founder and CEO.
I want to get all your tech under control.
My belief in helping others with their technology is simple: It's not enough to fix problems. You want your digital life in order, and when you do have questions or problems you want solutions that are part of a bigger picture plan to keep everything working in harmony.
If you don't want to spend countless hours on the Internet learning how to do it yourself, and if you prefer not to go to the mall for tech support, but aren't sure where to start, then this page is for you.
In my experience, what most people want - and what I focus on at TechRoom - is the following:
Smart answers to common tech needs that improve your qualify of life and success in business by giving you back more time and enabling you to do the things you want to do with ease.
In other words, the goal isn't to wait for you to have a problem. The goal is for all the parts of your technology - your "digital life" to work.
There are three things you need if you want technology to be easy, so you can use it to succeed in life or win at work:
- You need your suite of tech essentials working together in harmony. This means your devices, apps, services and other tech tools need to work well together. Having the greatest smartphone or computer in the world without functioning email, or with your photos in a mess, isn't useful at all.
- You need a competent, smart and reliable person responsible for keeping everything working in harmony. Because tech changes all the time, whether it's a new smartphone we want or a software update no one saw coming.
- Once everything is working, you need to stay ahead of the curve.
I've put together the essentials below to show you how do to this.
The 3 keys to making tech work for you
Let's dispel some myths and set realistic expectations before we go any deeper.
1. You don't need to spend a lot of time to get your tech life under control.
There are several basic steps you can take to get and keep your tech under control. The most essential steps follow below on this page. I also blog and podcast about what you can do to enjoy technology more every week.
2. Almost all tech support house calls are a waste of your time and money.
Almost all the time, if you need a house call for troubleshooting and fixing stuff, it means your technology isn't set up correctly.
3. Disasters with computers and your digital life is always avoidable, but it's up to you.
People assume manufacturers care about them and will inform them. This simply isn't going to happen. The 5 essentials below can help anyone get their tech under control, and better yet, make their life better.
Rule #1 is never lose your data. This means never losing priceless family photos and documents you created through a lot of hard work.
There's a lot more to consider when designing a fool-proof backup. Do a search for "backup" on the TechRoom blog here to learn more. Or if you want me to design your backup system for you in just one hour, click here for more info.
TechRoom essential #1:
Viruses, including malware and ransomware, are real threats to both Mac and PC users. If you don't take this seriously you can lose all your data.
If you want the professional version that can protect you and your family from additional threats like phishing and other dangers, like inappropriate web and email content, it's available as a subscription. It even protects iPhones and iPads. If you want to learn more or would like help with getting set up right away, click here.
TechRoom essential #2:
People tell me all the time that their home or office wifi is a problem. If you listen to some of the Internet's best productivity gurus, including Michael Hyatt, Pat Flynn and Noah Kagan, you'll hear a common recommendation: Get a better router and you'll get better performance.
I have fixed and designed thousands of home and office networks, and I can tell you what the absolute best solution is: Meraki. And there is no close second-place. Meraki is the best, and makes everything better and faster. If you want Meraki for your home I can make it easy.
Those of you who already know me know I'm a huge Apple fan and love their products. I even served on the AppleCare advisory board for years. But I won't use Apple's wireless. Meraki makes Macs work better.
